Become Informed

The issues that impact our schools are vast.  Budgets, brick and mortar, books, bookkeeping and educational philosophy are challenges which must be addressed.  Just by visiting the school you will learn.  Consider attending school board meetings.  

   
Become Involved Become a member of a PTA / PTO at a school of your choice.  Join the Site Team at the school.  Volunteer at the Library, as a classroom assistant, tutor, band helper, or after school enrichment program.
   
   
Become Active We are an all -Volunteer organization.  We are always looking for volunteers who are passionate about raising the quality of our local public schools and the education of their students.  You can volunteer to be a board member, organizer, fundraiser, and help with numerous S.S.O.S. projects and activities.
 

Eight great ways to help Save & Support Our Schools:

1) Get involved and stay involved:  Contact the school board, write letters to the editor of any and all papers, call the TV and radio stations, and call your community associations. Click here for Board contact information.   Come to Save & Support Our Schools events, join our campaigns, and attend public meetings. Voice your opinion and show your support! 

2) Donate - this is an out-of-pocket operation right now!

3) Reach out to neighborhoods and school communities throughout the district, whether they're immediately affected or not. Ask them to join so we can hear all perspectives and ideas.

4) Volunteer - we need people hours!

5) Talk about it - raise public awareness, because this affects all of us!

6) Attend events & meetings - attend rallies, school board meetings, city council meetings, etc. Be there and cheer! Speak and keep the message clear! Save ALL Our Schools.

7) Continue to support your school community - students, parents, teachers, and staff. They are working hard to keep education working while we work hard to save the schools.

8) Join S.S.O.S. - Your yearly membership will help us with the costs associated with this effort.  Printed material, postage, and other office supplies are costly.  With your help we will make Des Moines Schools a better place for our kids to learn, and an enhanced educational system for our community.
